Causative agents may be bacteria, virus and fungi. Mastitis is a multifactoral disease, closely related to the production system and environment that cows are kept in. Mastitis risk factors or disease determinants can be classified into three groups: host, pathogen and environmental determinants.On basis of symptoms two types

■1) Sub clinical Mastitis
subclinical mastitis cases often go unrecognized, as the milk and gland appear normal. Although subclinical mastitis is more difficult to identify, monitoring of somatic cell count (SCC) and other different lab test.
2) clinical mastitis
Clinical cases may present with any of the following signs:
●Flakes or clots to purulent exudate
●Discolored, watery, or bloody milk
●Swelling or hardening of the gland
●The presence of pain, heat or reddish discoloration of the skin of inflamed glands
■Treatment
● Use if NSAIDs
● long acting antibiotics eg Penicillin, gentamycin, etc
